The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the immensely successful franchise Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The influential industry figure died after his automobile collided and was engulfed in flames on a highway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends, his family, and all those touched by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts commented.
