UEFA Launches Disciplinary Investigation Involving Pedro Neto After Push Involving Paris St-Germain Youth Assistant.
European football's governing body has commenced disciplinary proceedings concerning Chelsea winger the Portuguese international after he shoved a sideline assistant in a Champions League match against Paris St‑Germain.
The Portugal international, Neto, pushed the youngster in the dying moments of Wednesday's knockout stage first leg at Parc des Princes – a match in which Chelsea lost heavy defeat – which caused him to fall off his seat.
It sparked an altercation between both sets of players.
Officials stated the case has been opened against Neto for "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" under its disciplinary regulations.
"Disciplinary officials will take a decision on this case in the coming days," UEFA announced.
Neto said sorry after the match and blamed getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" when he sought to get back the ball.
"This is out of character for me. Emotions were running high and I sincerely apologise. I offered him my jersey as a gesture. I deeply regret it - an apology is necessary," Neto explained to broadcasters.
"My French is not very good, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha intervened and told him that it was a momentary lapse.
"Finally he [the ball boy] laughed and I presented him with my jersey apologising many times. He realized the context of the incident and was satisfied with the situation."
The London club welcome PSG in the upcoming second leg for the return fixture, after a match against Newcastle at their home ground this weekend in domestic competition.
