This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
