The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
