The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
