During a White House roundtable discussion, the homeland security secretary this week likened antifa to the notorious gang, the Gaza-based organization, the Iran-backed group and the Islamic State, describing the loosely affiliated protesters “equally threatening” as designated terrorist organizations.

“They operate with the same complexity as Mara Salvatrucha, as TDA [Tren de Aragua], as Isis, as Hezbollah, as Hamas, each one of these, they are just as dangerous,” Noem stated. “Their goal is to dismantle our society, just like the other terrorists we have confronted for many, many years.”

The roundtable featured conservative online reporters such as several prominent commentators and others who cover anti-fascist demonstrations.

Several organizations mentioned by the secretary – Hamas, Hezbollah and Isis – are officially classified as terror groups that hold land, run armed branches, maintain command structures and have carried out large-scale assaults including bombings, abductions and assassinations.

Extremism experts have frequently characterized the anti-fascist movement, by contrast, as lacking a central command, official membership or organizational structure, and it has generally been described by national authorities as a loose network of campaigners who participate in demonstrations, some of which has included property destruction and street violence.

This meeting follows an executive order signed last month designating anti-fascist activists as a “domestic terrorist organization”.

Shortly prior to the declaration, Joe Biggs previously convicted and later pardoned for his role on January 6 wrote on social media: “Who is prepared to pursue anti-fascist activists? Since I am acquainted with several individuals.”
