A resurgent the Russian player won his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an better serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional title, took control to create a final set.

The opponent saved four initial break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
