The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."

The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

New Character and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.

Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama launched in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.

However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
