Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
