Fans Demand Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the actress are demanding that a person who jumped a barrier and seized the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile contains videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote another comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some requested digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, earning a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
