Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager lamented familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
